Confused

On the topic of motherhood:

How can watching your children grow up bring such incredible joy and such agonizing pain at the exact same time? And what exactly is one to do with those feelings? Weeping quietly over blog posts and pictures late at night doesn't seem to help very much.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATHAN!!

Oh how can this be? My sweet, darling baby boy is SIX YEARS OLD TODAY!!

SIX YEARS OLD!

Nate, I love you buddy. You are such a sweet, free spirited little charmer. I can't imagine my life without you.

I think this picture of you tenderly cradling a giant Madagascar cockroach whilst smiling sweetly sums up your personality better than I ever could.

Happy birthday sweet boy. Thank you for being our little guy.

P.S. I had huge, grandiose plans to create a super cool slide show of Nate from birth to today, but it fizzled in light of the fact that I am apparently suffering from the incurable plague. Bummer.

Love to all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNA!!!

Ok, her birthday was on the 15th. But still...HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNA!!!

My little THREE year old informed me that she will now be picking out her own clothes EVERY day. I think she did a pretty darn good job with her birthday outfit, don't you?

Anyone who reads this, PLEASE say a quick prayer that the mondo snow storm predicted for this weekend falls in the form of rain rather than snow. We will all be terribly disappointed if we have to cancel the birthday party, though we definitely won't complain about one last chance to get in some good, solid sled time.
Love to all!

Really?

I don't intend to be indelicate nor am I in the habit of publicly posting pictures of the more personal locations in our home in public forums, but I just HAVE to ask this one time.

Are we the only ones whose cats' idea of fun is to hang over a recently flushed toilet and swat at the swirling water?

And yes, in answer to the inevitable question, they have both fallen in on more than one occasion.

Am I the only one?

Am I the only one who finds the contrast between the message on her shirt and the expression on her face absolutely hysterical?

Anna turns three tomorrow. THREE!! HOW can my baby be THREE???

Happy Easter! (Part 2)

The S family celebrated a lovely, rainy Easter Sunday. I know I should wish for bright, sunny skis, but I LOVE a good, soaking rain. LOVE IT.

Seeing as I have become THE laziest blogger on the planet, I am now going to treat you to a bunch of photos without captions. Not that they really NEED much explanation.

Love to all!

Happy Easter!

A conversation:

Me: Anna, what do you want the Easter bunny to bring you?

Anna (with a most scornful look): Mommy, rabbits live OUTSIDE. I live INSIDE.

Me: Yes but once a year the Easter bunny comes inside and brings you a present.

Anna (with a slightly less scornful yet no less disbelieving look): Mommy Santa brings presents, not bunnies.

Me: Yes, Santa brings presents too but the Easter bunny will also bring you ONE present, what do you want him to bring you?

Anna: A snow globe.

SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter, full of meaning and reflection.

And now for some random pictures!

Do you love it?

Anna has a new protest mantra.

Me: Anna, let's go potty.

Anna: I don't yuv going potty!

Me: Anna, let's get ready for bed.

Anna: I don't yuv going to bed!

Me: Anna, I am going to put your polk-a-dot jammies on you tonight.

Anna: I don't yuv my polk-a-gots jammies!

Me: Anna, please go and play with your toys.

Anna: I don't yuv my toys!

You get the general idea.

Nathan has also developed a rather interesting protest strategy.

Nathan: Daddy, can I play the Wii?

Daddy: No Nathan, it's not video game day today.

Nathan: But daddy I can't live if I can't play Wii!

Nathan: Mommy, can I have a muffin?

Mommy: No Nathan, we just had dinner.

Nathan: But mommy, I can't live if I don't have a muffin!

Cue Air Supply ballad: I can't liiiiiiiiiiiiive if livin is without you! I can't giiiiiiiiiiiive, I can't give anymore!

It's so beautiful man!

Love to all!
